Water Main Valve Replacement Projects

West Valley Water District is currently replacing water main valves throughout our service area. The valve replacement program is necessary to maintain the ongoing successful operation of the District. Water main valve replacements are done to replace aging infrastructure and ensure that we can continue to provide our customers with safe and reliable service. Replacing the valves will help us better respond during an emergency and maintain high water quality standards.

Keeping Our Customers Informed

We will provide as much notice as possible to inform you of a water main valve replacement project in your area. Before a project, we will send a letter by mail and place a door tag at your home 48-hours before the planned maintenance.  In some neighborhoods, water service will be shut down during a valve replacement for a predetermined length of time. In other areas near the water main valve replacement, water pressure may be reduced by up to 50% during the project time. West Valley Water District will always inform you of the type of maintenance that will affect you in advance. 

What To Expect

West Valley Water District will not need access to your home to replace the water main valves. During construction, you may see activity in the street and sidewalks, but we will make sure that you have access to your home and driveway throughout the project time. Here are a few things you can do in advance to ease the inconvenience of the planned water shutdown:
  • Fill up your bath tub or five gallon buckets so you can refill your toilets for flushing
  • Fill clean pitchers with water and place in the refrigerator for drinking

After this kind of maintenance, there may be a temporary discoloration or sediment in the water. After service is restored, you may need to flush your internal plumbing to eliminate air from the lines and eliminate discoloration or a milky appearance from the water. To do this, run your bathtub(s) faucet until the water is clear, then run the rest of your water faucets until the water is clear.

  • Surrounding areas are expected to experience reduced water pressure by up to 50% until Saturday, January 14th.
