Fall Back in Love with Water Savings with WVWD
West Valley Water District shares tips for saving water this fall
The end of daylight savings is the perfect time to take small steps that make big impacts. As customers “fall back” in time, West Valley Water District (WVWD) encourages them to also fall back in love with water savings.
“In the same way that you reset your clocks, it’s the perfect time to reset your habits when it comes to water use,” said West Valley Water District’s Conservation Specialist Daniel Moreno. “Landscapes need much less water in the fall and winter, so ensuring that you reassess watering needs in your home will help you save water and money.”
While you’re turning back your clocks, use these easy-to-follow tips to stay water-savvy all year long:
- Adjust Irrigation timers: Don’t just turn back your clocks, adjust your sprinkler system to run in the early morning or late evenings.
 - Replace batteries on hose and other lawn water timers: Batteries may fail and stop watering altogether, which can kill plants, or they may get stuck in the "on" position, leading to over-watering and water waste.
 - Assess watering needs: Cooler temperatures mean less water is needed. Set your irrigation timers to water lawns and plants less frequently.
 - Perform irrigation maintenance: Check sprinklers for breaks and leaks and ensure that they are adjusted to water only grass, not concrete.
 - Check for leaks: Changing of the seasons is a great time to check for leaks around your home. Inspect toilets and sinks for small leaks that can cause significant water waste.
