WVWD Earns the 2022 Rising Star Outreach Award

Rialto, Calif. – West Valley Water District (WVWD) was recognized by the Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) at its 2022 Fall Conference & Exhibition as the recipient of ACWA’s 2022 Rising Star Special Outreach Program. WVWD was presented with the award during the Opening Breakfast on November 30.

Recipients of ACWA’s Rising Star Award are recognized for their work in creating a statewide presence through the development of legislative advocacy strategy and outreach for issues important to ACWA and to the water industry.

“We are honored to be recognized by the Association of California Water Agencies for our active engagement with government agencies and legislators on behalf our ratepayers and the water industry,” said West Valley Water Districts Board President Channing Hawkins. “We are grateful to ACWA for their steadfast commitment to supporting water agencies and creating an industry culture of responsible water management.”

The ACWA Rising Star Award recognizes water agencies for their outstanding involvement in government outreach and legislative advocacy for water issues. Throughout the past year, WVWD Board of Directors and staff members spearheaded dozens of meetings and exchanges with government officials and legislators to advocate for critical funding for important infrastructure improvements and water reliability.

“These important interactions with our elected officials are critical in ensuring that we are proactively advocating for available resources that will help us ensure our ratepayers have safe and reliable water,” said West Valley Water District Director Angela Garcia, “I look forward to increasing our presence in advocacy in coming years and being a stronger voice for our region.”

ACWA is the largest statewide coalition of public water agencies with more than 460 public agency members. ACWA members account for 90% of the water delivered to California homes and businesses. The agencies mission is to provide comprehensive leadership, advocacy, and resources for California public water agencies.
